Tom,
During the past years you have skillfully kept our "ship" on a straight course and even keel.
You have never hesitated to thank us for our efforts in this task; therefore, we feel that this is
an appropriate time to voice our support of and our appreciation for you. There are many
reasons that we are grateful to be working with you, and we take this opportunity to point out
some of them:
You give us your professional regard and trust;
You encourage a positive and productive academic atmosphere;
You provide firm, fair, and consistent discipline;
You have the gift for giving troubled children confidence and value;
You support our staff professionally;
You are sensitive, kind, and highly responsive to our personal problems and needs;
You listen to our concerns and, if possible, find the means to resolve them;
You recognize our individual strengths and teaching styles and utilize them effectively;
You allow us the liberty of choosing our own approaches to curriculum;
You highlight our professional strengths and offer suggestions and support as we deal with our
weaknesses;
You welcome our suggestions and opinions as we attempt to meet the needs of our students;
You take the time to talk with us about matters of professional and personal importance;
You often choose to inconvenience yourself rather than us;
You are a daily example of professional excellence;
You receive our best efforts because you are worthy of them;
You are a most knowledgeable and articulate spokesman for our professional family;
You enthusiastically encourage our personal and professional growth;
You are a positive liaison between school and community;
You make us feel valued with your frequent notes and letters;
You lighten many of our depressed moments with your quick, dry humor;
You keep our attention focused on the priority of our profession - our students;
You make us feel important and that we are doing our job well;
You take professional risks on our behalf;
You have the courage to defend what is deserving of defense;
In short, Tom, we like, appreciate, respect, and need you.

ADMINISTRATIVE EXCELLENCE:
The following letter was written by Exeter AREA Junior High School faculty and sent to their principal, Tom Meehan, in 1981. Mr. Meehan is a widely-respected administrator who led EAJHS to earn the prestigious national Flag of Excellence award from the U. S. Department of Education. Please take a moment to read this eloquent letter, and ask yourself if today's SAU16 administrators build the same kind of environment, and earn the same kind of respect.

ADMINISTRATIVE OVERLOAD:
Our administrative budget has mushroomed, adding to taxpayers' financial burden. Here are a few simple comparisons:
SAU16 has the same number of assistant superintendents (3) as Manchester. But we only have 6,000 students while they have 16,000. Nashua only has 2 assistant superintendents.
SAU16 is the only district in the state of NH with 2 business administrators. We now call one of ours a Chief Financial Officer, and the other is the highest-paid business administrator in the state, earning a higher salary than many superintendents.
SAU16 superintendent Skip Hanson is consistently the highest paid superintendent in the region, and among the top in the state overall (see local press page links).
