Mathscape and Everyday Math were implemented district wide in
2004 (in Stratham in 2000).  They represent curricula based on
literacy in math, not mastery in any specific math subject area: The
term used is "Numeracy".  Mathscapes and Everyday Math
represent a chef salad approach to math, not a consistent step by
step methodical mastery of math subjects (i.e. pre-algebra, algebra I,
algebra II, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus, etc).  The Mathscape
program continues to be challenged in several states including New
York, California, and Texas, to name a few.  The Co-op Board and
SAU Administration have not presented any aggregated data to the
community about the success or challenges this program has
created.  Recent NWEA test scores indicate this curriculum is not
serving our children well.  But the administration and board fail to
take any action.  Why?

Math Education:  An Inconvenient Truth
This video is hosted by a Seattle TV meteorologist.  She explains Everyday Math to parents in an
understandable fashion.  It's about 15 minutes long, but worth your time.  It should scare you, too.

Math Education:  A University View
This video is hosted by a University of Washington professor.  It explains the problems with
incoming college freshman as victims of "reform" math.  About 12 minutes of worthwhile video.
